Guidelines for Student Missionaries

These are guidelines that Mississippi Baptist Student Missionaries are expected to follow.

  • No exclusive relationships (dating or otherwise) are allowed while on the field of service. This applies to fellow missionaries and especially to locals. It is NEVER appropriate to form exclusive relationships with people in my ministry.
  • Excessive use of the internet, email, text messaging, social networking sites, or telephone is discouraged. While these things can be useful tools in ministry, they can also be a distraction to the work students are there to do. Students should monitor themselves and their time wisely and keep their head and heart in the game. Students should notify parents that they can expect to hear from them about once a week (depending on place of service).
  • Students will maintain a lifestyle that is in agreement with Biblical guidelines; one that is glorifying to Jesus. This includes: maintaining the highest standards of Christian character, conduct, and courtesy. In respect of Christian and cultural norms, the use of alcohol, tobacco, pornography, or other such activities that could call into question a student’s integrity or hinder their witness are prohibited.
  • Students will submit reports to Mississippi Baptist Student Missions, NAMB, and/or IMB as requested and as possible. (depending on the field of service.)
  • Because the term of service is so brief and students are on the field to serve the place that has requested them, students are discouraged from receiving guests from home or school while on the field.
  • Students are expected to remain on the field for their entire term of service. If a student needs to come home before the end of the term of service due to a family or medical emergency, he/she MUST discuss it with Beverly Parrish before leaving the field. No changes to travel will be made without approval from Beverly Parrish.
  • Students are not to take a vehicle to the field of service, unless approved by Mississippi Baptist Student Missions office.
  • Students must return home at the end of their term of service.
