Bring excitement and the draw of native English speakers to this least-reached area of Northeastern Thailand! Activities will include leading Bible studies with believers and seekers each morning, daily visits with church members’ families and locals, teaching English at the local school, playing sports with boys and girls, and participating in outreach events. Bring a servant’s heart and a friendly smile with the goal of building relationships for the Gospel.
Buriram is a rural province in Northeast Thailand with little infrastructure and lots of tropical vegetation. It is a 6-hour drive from Bangkok. Monsoons can be daily during the rainy season. Students will have a room inside the home of a church member with air conditioning and WIFI available. Smile a lot and make an effort to learn basic Thai vocabulary and it will bring you respect and acceptance. Wear modest clothing with covered shoulders and skirts. Shorts should be long - just above the knee. No crop tops. Be comfortable but try not to look like a tourist.
The climate is tropical. Students will need to be able to withstand high heat and humidity. Sometimes there are field burnings which can be problematic for asthmatics. Students should be aware that food is often prepared with shellfish, cashews, peanut oil, palm oil, and/or MSG.
