Lilly Herring – Ole Miss - Philippines
It has been 31 days on this journey and God has been so good! This week we are on midsummer's break, and it feels so nice! You do not know how great a hot shower and a bed feels until you have been deprived of it for almost a month. I thought I had a good Chaco and watch tan, but after the shower...it was just dirt!
We weren’t able to do a lot of ministry in our area this past week because we were kicked out of our village - (They were scared we were going to convert people from animism to Jesus.) - but we helped the pastor of the local church here and did some kids’ ministry and Bible studies with believers in the church.
Next week we are going to a much more rural village called Cangomantong. It is built on the side of the mountain or on the cliffside (literally). It’s going to be rough, so pray that I can have the endurance to travel up and down the mountain to tell these people who have never heard about the love of Christ. Also pray that the people will be open and receptive to the gospel.
Continue to pray for our team. We are doing a lot better unity-wise, but there are times when Satan still gets in between us. Allison and I finally had some stomach disagreements this past week, but we are doing a lot better. We have not eaten as much rice since then, though!
The verses “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Isaiah 52:7 (NIV) and "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Romans 10:15, have never been clearer or more understood by me than now. My feet are gross, very unclean, bug bitten, and have sores all over them, but as long as they are obedient to the gospel and the command to share His love with those unreached, they are beautiful.
My prayer for myself, my team, this summer, and those back home that I pray over everyone reading this email right now is found in Numbers. "The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and give you peace."
