Tearing Down Strongholds

Sawadee kha! Hello from Thailand!

I remember the first time I shared the Gospel with one of my Asian friends. I thought that if I spoke boldly and clearly, my friend would become a follower of Jesus. How could anyone not accept such great news? But, I was wrong. My friend and many like her around the world can hear the good news and still decide not to believe it…

Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country, although most Thais also practice some form of Animism. This country is a spiritually dark place where few have heard the name of Jesus and even fewer have entrusted their lives to Him. However, we are not without hope! There are missionaries and Thais throughout the country who are committed to obeying God and proclaiming His Gospel. More importantly, we know that we serve an all-powerful God who wants Thais to be saved. This is why we pray with joy, knowing that it is possible for anyone to come to the Lord, even those who may not call on His name the first time they hear it.

My team and I teach English classes in Bangkok. These classes give us a great opportunity to share the Gospel as we go over new vocabulary and talk about American culture and Christian worldview. In these classes, students learn English as they read about the life of Jesus. Words cannot describe how amazing it is to listen to our students read, talk, and ask questions about Jesus and about what it means to be a Christian. We have also been able to invest in our relationships with these women outside of the classroom, going to the movies and dinner and trying some interesting new foods.

Group of ladies

There are three women in particular that we have been having great conversations with recently:  “K,” “A,” and their friend, “G.” K is becoming increasingly more interested in the Gospel.  Yesterday, she said that she now believes that God created the world!  She says that she wants to follow Jesus but she wants to have a reason first, so she is reading a Thai Bible we gave her. G is also interested in Christianity but is not ready to decide anything yet. We pray that God will reveal Himself to these women, and they will place their trust in Jesus and find peace in Him.

Having fun

A has been spending a lot of time with all of us and is keeping us laughing. Although we have been able to have good conversations with her, she acts like she is fine the way she is and is not searching for truth or meaning in life. Her friends in the class, however, have told us that she talks about what we are learning about the Bible even when we're not around. We pray that God will show her how lost she is without Him and that she will understand her need for Him.

City at night

Pray for us as we continue to invest in our friends here. Pray that God will reveal Himself to them and that they will choose to become followers of Jesus. There are many barriers to prevent these people from believing the Gospel, but we serve a powerful Savior. Please pray that barriers will be torn down and blind eyes would be opened to the truth. Our prayer is that God would touch the hearts of the people of Thailand and that believers here would boldly proclaim the message of the Gospel of God's grace so that many would come to know their Savior, Jesus Christ.

"The LORD is the strength of His people; He is a stronghold of salvation for His anointed.” Psalm 28:8 (HCSB)

Praise God! He is good. He is faithful. He is active and working in the hearts of His people to grow them, and in the hearts of those who don't know Him to draw them to Himself. We serve an awesome God!
